Dental In Costa Rica

A tooth implant in Costa Rica can be inserted into the already-healed bone and the fresh tooth socket after the extracted tooth. In the latter case, it is essential that there is enough bone around the implant. 

After the incision of the mucosa, the doctor drills calibrated bone tunnels with a drill, adjusted in diameter to future implants, and inserts implants of the appropriate diameter into them. 

The implants in Costa Rica are screwed in so as to obtain a strong stabilization that guarantees good integration - the implants fuse with the bone. This fusion of the bones with the implants is a guarantee that the implants will transfer high masticatory forces in the future.

The procedure of implanting a tooth implant in Costa Rica ends with the placement of a gum healing screw on the implant. This screw is designed to create a gingival cuff around the implant neck so that the future crown looks natural. 

It also happens that tooth implants inserted into the bone are sutured under the mucosa, and the healing screws are uncovered and put on only after a few months. This is usually the case with immediate implants after tooth (root) extraction or if bone regeneration is performed.

When, 2-3 months after the procedure in Costa Rica, the implant surface joins the bone, the implants can already be loaded in the bite, i.e. cement crowns and bridges on them, or used to snap removable dentures. Dental implant procedures are not painful and are performed under local anesthesia. 

An important element of implantation is the appropriate bone base for the implantation procedure. If there is too little bone, e.g. it disappeared after extractions from years ago, it should be reconstructed using special augmentation methods. 

Various preparations are used that induce the growth of bone tissue in the desired places so that the insertion of implants is possible there.

Bone regeneration, however, is always associated with a greater risk, and in some cases with the postponement of the implant placement procedure. 

Generally speaking, dental implants are today a proven, modern restorative method in dentistry, which can be used in a very wide range of indications.

The period after implantation in Costa Rica

A patient who has had dental implants implanted in our clinic should remove postoperative sutures 2 weeks after the procedure. It can be done at our place or at a dentist in your city. 

In the case of implants implanted in the upper jaw, appropriate impressions for crowns or bridges on implants must be made - we make them 3 months after implantation. In the case of the mandible, this period can be shortened to 2 months after implant placement.

This time is necessary for the implants to pre-grow with the bone and to be strong. After implantation, the patient's gum is sutured or a healing screw is placed. 

After about 3 months in Costa Rica, the screw is unscrewed, and, having healed the gum, an impression is taken with transfers so that a porcelain crown and abutment can be made on this basis in the technical laboratory. 

Occasionally, when a patient wears a healing screw on an implant in their mouth for a long time, it can loosen or fall out. In this case, wait a min. full 3 months from the implantation procedure, until the initial fusion of the implant with the bone occurs and the healing screw is then reapplied. 

Such an incident has no side effects affecting the quality of the union - integration of the implant with the bone, but only extends the healing time of the gum itself and occurs in a few percent of cases.

Porcelain crowns on implants can be fired on metal or zirconia. Earlier, if the tooth implants are properly inserted, it is possible to make temporary crowns or an acrylic bridge, so that the patient will have a new smile and the ability to bite within 2-3 months. 

Other temporary prosthetic restorations in Costa Rica can also be made at the patient's request for this difficult period.

During the impressions, a special impression-transfer is placed on each tooth implant in order to transfer the position of the implants with a special silicone mass in such a way that the dental laboratory performing porcelain crowns or bridges has the correct spatial arrangement of the implants, the same as in the patient's mouth.

Subsequent visits of the patient in Costa Rica are fittings of prosthetic work, which are performed at intervals of 3-4 days. We usually make 2 fittings to make bridges. There are no fittings for making crowns, and the crown on the dental implant is ready after 3-4 working days from the impression.

After handing over and cementing ceramic crowns or bridges on implants, we provide hygiene instructions in order to teach the patient how to care for the bridge or crown made on implants/implants. It is also advisable to take an X-ray at that time.

Exposure of the implant in Costa Rica

The implant is exposed about 2-3 months after implant placement if it was sutured under the gum during the implantation procedure.

The procedure consists in incising the mucosa above the implant under anesthesia and placing a healing screw on the implant so that the healed gum next to the screw allows the prosthetic work to be started after about 2 weeks from exposure.

However, if the implantation (insertion of the tooth implant into the bone) was carried out under good treatment conditions (good quality bone), then the hot screw is placed immediately after implantation, and exposing the implant from under the mucosa is not necessary. 

Statistically, about 20 - 30% of implants are sutured after implantation under the gum for their safety. The tooth implant, hidden after the implantation procedure under the gum, has better conditions for proper fusion with the bone.
